Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test
The Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test is the very first step of the Stage I Screening Process in the SSB Interview. It is designed to evaluate a candidate’s basic intelligence, logical reasoning, and decision-making ability—qualities that are considered essential for an Armed Forces officer.
Importance of OIR in SSB
- Your OIR score is combined with your PPDT (Picture Perception & Description Test) performance to determine whether you get screened in or out.
- A good OIR score boosts your overall chances of clearing Stage I and moving forward to the detailed testing stages.
- Since the test assesses your speed, accuracy, and mental sharpness, it indirectly reflects your potential to handle real-time decision-making in stressful situations.
Structure of OIR Test
- Number of Questions: Usually 40 to 50 questions in each set.
- Time Allotted: Around 17–30 minutes depending on the set.
- Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate – questions are based on verbal and non-verbal reasoning, requiring presence of mind rather than advanced knowledge.
